This 10 year, single barrel bourbon is sourced from a somewhat unknown location, and has one of the best noses out there. December 2017 marked an exciting month for the American whiskey scene in the UK. Awarded a gold medal by the Beverage Tasting Institute in 2014, the FEW Bourbon is a high-rye bourbon from Illinois that uses a “special peppery yeast” to give it a little something extra to bring up the spice level and add a new dimension to the whiskey. FEW Rye received the Craft Whiskey of the Year in 2013 from Whiskey Advocate and was scooped off the shelves immediately - although I haven’t tasted it yet I still have my hopes up. Taylor lineup: the Single Barrel. Pursuit Spirits Straight Bourbon Whiskey Episode 8 – This is a 10 year old bourbon and the lowest proof of the bunch. Obviously, it is smoother than the Few rye. With air, I get merciful hints of butterscotch pudding, some brown sugar, and maple syrup, but it takes a little digging. I believe it’s only the second one FEW has done with their Rye. Given a few more years in casks, this expression will be a wonderful addition to any bar. FEW is hand-crafted through a small-batch process in charred oak barrels to age its bourbon whiskey. I have tasted it side-by-side with Knob Creek 9 years and Bulleit and Few is clearly the more interesting of the three. Like the superb rye from the same distillery, this bourbon has a unique and fascinating herbal/medicinal nose, with amazing depth and balance. The bourbon became one of the constituents of the Four Kings collaboration blend that attracted so much attention last month. The results were overwhelming. It’s also aged in, relatively, young Minnesota oak barrels […] One was destined for the eager members of the British Bourbon Society, the other for the very popular fine wine & spirits… This FEW Rye Single Barrel was bottled for the Mixing Glass in Costa Mesa, CA and is one of only a handful of single barrels FEW has ever done. FEW’s basked of spirits includes a gin, a white whiskey, a rye whiskey and a bourbon, in addition to periodic limited editions such as their single malt whiskey.
